The Olympia Tumwater Foundation invites the community to kick off a month-long America250 celebration with a special lunchtime history talk on Thursday, May 7, 2026, at the historic Schmidt House.
The featured presentation, “The Greatest Breakup Letter in History: The Declaration of Independence,” begins at noon (doors open at 11:30 a.m.) and offers an engaging, fast-paced exploration of the events leading up to America’s founding. The talk will be presented by Art Dolan of the Sons of the American Revolution.
A retired science teacher and Olympia resident since 2005, Dolan brings history to life through dynamic storytelling, historical context, and personal insight—including his own connection to the Revolutionary War through an ancestor who served during that era. Attendees can expect fresh perspectives and lesser-known stories, including the influence of a “forgotten” founding father.
Admission to the talk is free, with seating available on a first-come, first-served basis.
