SUMMARY:History Talks at the Schmidt House: Saving the Nisqually Delta
DESCRIPTION:Thursday\, December 3\, 2026 | Noon \nHow did citizen activism help save one of the nation’s last unspoiled estuaries? Join the Olympia Tumwater Foundation for a fascinating look at the history of the Nisqually Delta and the ongoing efforts to protect this remarkable natural treasure. \nLocated just eight miles northeast of Olympia\, the Nisqually Delta has faced decades of pressure from ports\, local governments\, and corporations seeking to industrialize the area. \nJanine Gates\, author of Saving the Nisqually Delta\, will share stories from her book and present a slideshow exploring the threats to the delta\, the grassroots movement that helped preserve it\, and the challenges it continues to face from urban growth and industrial development. \nJoin us at the historic Schmidt House to learn how community action shaped the future of the Nisqually Delta—and why protecting it still matters today.
