History Talk: Women in the Revolutionary War

November 7 @ 11:30 am - 12:30 pm

Free

Monthly History Talks at the Schmidt House are back for autumn 2024! Join us in Tumwater at noon on the first Thursday of each month for an hour-long history talk. We’ll feature captivating programs on social history or natural history, each presented by a recognized expert.

CHANGE IN SPEAKER

Due to unforeseen circumstances, Jewell Dunn, our guest speaker for November 7, has had to cancel her presentation about maps from the State Archives. We hope to have Jewell speak at another time.

Filling in will be Dick Moody of the Sons of the American Revolution. Dick will present a program on:

November 7: Women in the Revolutionary War

History books are filled with the heroic exploits of our Patriot ancestors who won the Revolutionary War. Those books focus on the men at historic battles that defeated the British

If we look a little deeper, we can find stories of women and teenagers who were supporters, spies, saboteurs, and yes, who bore arms and even received a pension.

Learn about these and other heroines of the Revolutionary War from Dick Moody, genealogist of the George Rogers Clark Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution. The chapter serves Thurston, Mason, and Lewis counties.

Dick has a doctorate in education from Seattle University, master’s degree from Gonzaga University, and bachelor’s degree from Central Washington University.

Attendance is free. Doors open at 11:30 AM. First come, first seated until room capacity is reached.

The Schmidt House is located at 330 Schmidt Place SW, Tumwater.
