Join the Olympia Tumwater Foundation for History Talks on Thursday, October 1, at noon, featuring author and historian Ira Wesley Kitmacher presenting Lincoln, Civil War, and the Pacific Northwest.

Abraham Lincoln never visited the Pacific Northwest—but his presidency had a lasting impact on the region, and the West played a surprising role in the struggle to preserve the Union.

Kitmacher will explore Confederate ambitions in the West, Lincoln’s military and political response, and the Pacific Northwest’s place in the larger story of the Civil War.

Kitmacher is an author, historian, former Georgetown graduate professor and retired senior federal executive whose work focuses on American and European history and folklore.
